RCMP have charged one man with attempted murder after an officer was hit by an SUV near Meadow Lake.
In a news release, the RCMP say on Monday at approximately 12:15 p.m., a Meadow Lake Crime Reduction Team (CRT) officer saw a white SUV driving through a stop sign on First Avenue at the corner of Centre Street in Meadow Lake and before the officer could initiate a traffic stop, the white SUV sped off towards Highway 55.
The officer tried to pull the white SUV over multiple times, but the vehicle didn’t stop and fled at a high rate of speed.
Around 1:30 p.m. while a Meadow Lake RCMP officer deployed a tire deflation device on Highway 4 north of the junction with Highway 55, a white SUV hit the police officer. The officer was treated in hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
RCMP say the suspect vehicle drove over the tire deflation device and it was discovered abandoned approximately 4 kilometres away. Police Dog Services joined Meadow Lake RCMP CRT and tracked the suspects who had fled on foot. A male and female were taken into custody.
