It’s not the soundest strategy to fall behind 3-1 in a playoff game and attempt a stirring comeback to win, but the Saskatoon Blades are proving to be somewhat proficient at it! For the second time in as many games, the Bridge City Bunch battled back from a 3-1 deficit to tie the score – but on Tuesday they successfully completed the comeback in a 4-3 victory over the visiting Edmonton Oil Kings.

The result gave the Blue and Gold a 2-1 lead in the best-of-seven Eastern Conference quarter-final series with Game 4 Wednesday night at SaskTel Centre. Back on Sunday, the Blades forced overtime with a late rally from being down 3-1, only to have Edmonton win Game 2 in overtime. On Tuesday, Saskatoon opened the scoring for the third straight game in the series on David Lewandowski’s power play goal. But, the Oil Kings scored three times in the first 6:26 of the second period to put a hush on a boisterous crowd of 4,237. However, Rowan Calvert’s late second period tally gave the Bridge City Bunch life and momentum heading into the third period where Tyler Parr tied the score and Tristen Doyle (pictured) notched the game winner on a man advantage with 7:27 remaining in regulation time. The Blue and Gold reversed the special teams roles on Edmonton from Sunday’s game as the Blades went 2-for-5 on the power play and held the Oil Kings scoreless on their two opportunities. The contest was like three games in one with the team shooting on the goal in the North end of SaskTel Centre holding the shots on goal, as well as the territorial advantage in alternating periods. Saskatoon shot on that net in the first and third period, scoring three times while out-shooting Edmonton 14-5 in the first period and 14-4 in the third. In the second frame, the Oil Kings out-shot the Bridge City Bunch 17-5 while scoring all three of their goals. The Blue and Gold ended up out-shooting Edmonton 33-26. The Blades have out-shot the Oil Kings in all three games. Lewandowski and Calvert each added an assist to their goals while Hunter Laing chipped in a pair of helpers.
