As the weather warms and the days get longer, the province is reminding truckers and shippers to begin reducing truck loads on secondary highways, back to regulation weights to prevent road damage. Effective Monday, southern Saskatchewan’s roads will revert back to normal regulation weight.
Usually the weights are removed around March 15th province-wide. When it’s colder in January and February, the road bed freezes so it’s stronger and can support heavier truck loads.
President of the Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities, Ray Orb, says reducing weights in the spring means reducing maintenance costs and keeping the roadways intact.
