Have you ever wanted to be a fly on the wall in someone else’s home or be privy to discussions that fall on very few pairs of ears?
That’s exactly what you’re in for with 25th Street Theatre’s new production, Behind Closed Doors.
Anita Smith says six short productions will be performed in various non-traditional spots across the city, such as an announcer’s broadcast booth, a bus, a night club bathroom, a basement, a gentleman’s parlour, and a coffee shop.
“It gets you super close to the action. Some of our audience capacities are six people per show, so you’re going to right in the thick of it…I hope that this is theatre that they will never forget, and I think that you don’t forget a show that you see in a bathroom or a show that you see on a school bus.”
Each play was written by a local artist. Five of whom are from Saskatoon and one from Swift Current. They have been working on perfecting their scripts for the last two years.
Smith says the idea sprung from a lack of available theatre space in the city as well as talking with a friend about the mystery of other people’s homes.
“I hope it gives them (audience members) a little bit more compassion and understanding for someone else’s experience, because that’s the whole point.”
