The Martensville and District & Saskatoon Lions Clubs are gearing up for the annual Walk for Dog Guides on Sunday, May 31st in Martensville. Lions Club member Leslie Truitt joined us to talk about how this walk/fundraiser helps provide highly trained dog guides to people living with visual impairments, autism, seizures, medical conditions, and more. These dogs can cost anywhere from $35,000 to over $50,000, but are provided to qualifying recipients thanks to community support and fundraising efforts. This year’s walk will also honour longtime supporter Doug Ward, who passed away the morning of last year’s event.
Registration begins May 31 around 1 p.m. at 415 6th Avenue South in Martensville, with a family-friendly atmosphere, a barbecue, and a walking route for participants. Donations and registrations can also be made online through the Walk for Dog Guides website, with proceeds helping communities continue supporting life-changing service dogs.
