The Saskatchewan Health Authority is planning to build a six-station hemodialysis unit in Meadow Lake. Jeremy Harrison is the government MLA for the area. He says the new unit will expand dialysis capacity in central and northern Saskatchewan. Currently, patients in those areas have to travel to Saskatoon or other sites for treatment if unable to access the service at a satellite dialysis site closer to home. The new unit will be built at Meadow Lake Hospital. The unit will also provide kidney wellness services. The province has kicked in $700 thousand for capital costs. More funding is coming in the next budget. The estimated construction cost is about $1.4 million. Construction should begin this summer with completion expected in the winter.
