The Rural Municipality of Montmartre pleaded guilty in Regina Provincial Court to an Occupational Health and Safety violation on May 26.
The charge was in regards to the employer failing to provide workers with proper restraining devices to contain flying parts in the event of an assembly failure or tire rupture, resulting in serious injury.
The workplace incident happened in August of 2023, when a worker was seriously injured by the explosive separation of a tire and rim while reinflating the tire.
The Court fined the employer over $20,000 plus a victim fine of more then $8,500, totalling to $30,000. The employer also made an additional $30,000 non-tax-deductible donation to the Village of Montmartre Fire Department for equipment upgrades.
