The Saskatchewan Workers’ Compensation Board says the 2019 workplace injury rates have decreased. The Total injury rate was 4.95 per 100 workers. That’s a nine per cent drop from 2018. The WCB says, since 2008, the Total injury rate has dropped by 51.5 per cent. There were 36 workplace fatalities in 2019 compared to 48 in 2018. Chairperson Gord Dobrowolsky says, “For the fourth year in a row, 88 per cent of Saskatchewan workplaces had zero injuries and zero fatalities.” He says the workplace injury rate in Saskatchewan has dropped from being the second highest in the country to fourth highest among the provinces.
The time loss injury rate last year fell 6.53 per cent. Total claims accepted decreased four per cent. Accepted Time Loss claims and No Time Loss claims decreased as well.
