The Saskatchewan side of the border city of Lloydminster has less than half of the total population, but that didn’t stop a Saskatchewan RCMP Traffic Services-organized traffic safety initiative from catching a lot of badly-behaving drivers.
The initiative as held between June 5 and 7 with officers conducting patrols en route and and from the Saskatchewan portion of Lloydminster, on roads east of Highway 17 in Lloydminster as well as in the communities of Paradise Hill and St. Walburg. In total, police stopped 429 vehicles and tested most drivers for alcohol and/or drug impairment. Out of those 429 stopped, 220 tickets were issued for speeding, seatbelt and cellphone violations and seven drivers had their licenses suspended.

– suspended two driver’s licenses for alcohol consumption before driving
– suspended five driver’s licenses for drug consumption before driving
– issued 59 tickets for not wearing or improperly wearing a seatbelt
– issued 64 tickets for speeding
– issued 97 tickets for using, holding, viewing or manipulating a cellphone while driving
– issued 251 warnings
