Despite lower flow rates than last week, the City of Saskatoon is still encouraging residents and visitors to stay off the South Saskatchewan River.

A release from the City says the flow rate remains well above what is typical in Saskatoon and the river remains dangerous. Typical flows are about 160 cubic metres per second, and currently, they are almost double that at around 296 cubic metres per second.

The City adds that people should especially stay away from the weir. There are usually buoys across the river downstream of the University Bridge, but the ongoing rapid water flow event has damaged the river boom.

The City continues its efforts to have the boom safely reinstalled as soon as possible.
