The City of Saskatoon is warning the public to stay out of the South Saskatchewan River after fast-moving water damaged safety buoys between University Bridge and the weir.

Officials say the buoys have been dislodged and are not in place, and public boat launches beneath the Broadway Bridge and other river access points have been closed. Residents are being urged to avoid all river activity, including boating, swimming, and shoreline fishing, due to strong currents and submerged hazards.

The warning comes just days after the body of a missing jet skier was recovered following a fatal incident at the weir, underscoring the ongoing dangers on the water.
