Average retail gasoline prices in Saskatoon have risen 8.9 c/L in the past week, averaging 165.18 c/L yesterday, according to GasBuddy’s daily survey of 81 gas outlets in Saskatoon. This compares with the national average that has increased 3.4 c/L in the last week to 165.23 c/L.

In a news release the head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy said that average gasoline prices rose in every province in the first week ending any relief at the pumps.

Patrick De Haan said, “The turnaround comes as oil prices have surged following the collapse of the ceasefire between the U.S. and Iran and the start of new attacks, with oil jumping another 4 per cent in Sunday evening trading, an ominous sign that could bring additional gas and diesel price increases in the week ahead.”

He also says while its price for gas will likely not have the same sting as was experienced in the spring, the fresh Ukrainian attacks on additional Russian refineries will only add to the pressure, keeping supplies of refined products tight.

Including the change in gas prices in Saskatoon during the past week, prices yesterday were 31.4 c/L higher than the same day one year ago.
