The Prime Minister of Canada was self isolating Thursday after it came to light his wife was being tested for COVID-19. Sophie Gregoire has tested positive for Coronavirus. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will stay in isolation for 14 days.
Dr. Theresa Tam, Canada’s Chief Public Health Officer announced Friday morning that they are recommending no non-essential travel outside of Canada and if you have a trip planned to postpone or cancel it.
Canadian students in many parts of the country are about to embark on March break which is when many families take the opportunity to travel.
It was also noted by government officials that if you are travelling you may have to submit to measures in those countries as far as screening, in addition to whether the health care where you are visiting is adequate.
A formal health advisory was also issued that although the cruise ship season begins at the end of April, ships transporting over 500 people will not be able to stop over in Canada until July 1st. And for the North this restriction applies to the entire season because of they do not have the health resources.
Overseas international flights are also going to be restricted to a smaller number of airports where they can land in Canada.
Unless there is an emergency the House of Commons won’t sit again until the 20th of April.
The government is stressing social distancing, not attending mass gatherings – religious, sports, concerts or otherwise. If you need to shop or take public transportation, do so in non-peak hours. If you are ill, do not attend social or religious gatherings.

-73% of cases are 40 years old and over
-11% of cases have been hospitalized
-1 person has died of COVID-19
-75% of cases are travellers and 10% are close contacts of travellers
