There are 152 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Canada as of 9 Friday morning and 3 probable cases. One of those probable cases is the 60 year old man from Saskatoon. Of the cases in Canada, 67 per cent are over 40 years old, 80 per cent are travelers and 10 per cent are close contacts of travelers. 53 per cent of cases are female. In Canada, 1 person has died from the novel coronavirus.
The Director General of the World Health Organization says there are now 132-thousand cases of COVID-19 worldwide and 5-thousand people have died. Tedros Ghebreyesus states what countries need to do is detect, protect and treat. Governments need to be proactive and take a comprehensive approach including locating all of the people that someone with the virus has been in contact with and quarantining them, and isolating those with suspected COVID-19. That’s along with continuing the conversation about how people can help themselves by washing their hands often, not touching their face, not hugging or shaking hands, and not attending any mass gatherings.
Up until now, the W-H-O has been relying mainly on governments who have supported its response plan, but now a fund has been set up to help countries respond to the pandemic, and anyone can donate. Click on this link.
