Despite the circumstances of today’s world, the Saskatchewan Rattlers are attempting to forge on with business as usual!
The reigning Canadian Elite Basketball League champions announced the signing of forward Shane Osayande…a U of S grad who was a member of last year’s Snakes. The 6’6″ Osayande played 11 games for Saskatchewan in 2019, averaging 10-point-nine points and six rebounds per game. The Toronto product is currently playing with a third division team in Spain…his third season of winter basketball in that country. The C-E-B-L has not announced any delays to starting the 2020 season because of the COVID-19 pandemic. That means the Rattlers are slated to open their schedule on May 8 at Fraser Valley, then host the Bandits on May 14 at SaskTel Centre. Following is the news release from the Rattlers…
Saskatchewan Rattlers Announce Signing of Shane Osayande Dynamic forward returns to the Rattlers for 2020 season
Saskatoon, Sask. (Mar. 17, 2020) – The Saskatchewan Rattlers, member club of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL), are excited to announce the re-signing of Shane Osayande to their roster.
The 6-foot-6 forward averaged 10.9 PPG, 48 FG% and 6.0 REB over the course of 11 games in the 2019 season for the Rattlers. Osayande spent time at Lakeland College before transferring to the University of Saskatchewan. Osayande is currently playing in Spain for CB Prat Juventud. CB Prat Juventud is a LEB-Silver club – Spain’s third division. This is Osayande’s third season playing in Spain, having spent 2017/18 with Toros and 2018/19 with Circulo Gijon. The Toronto, Ont.-native is known for his explosive vertical and dynamic athleticism. We are extremely happy to have Shane back with the team this season”, said Rattlers GM, Barry Rawlyk. “He is recognized as one of the best athletes in the league, and his explosiveness, speed and length allow him to impact the game on every play. His level of competitiveness is contagious and he helps to elevate the competitive edge in all of his teammates. We are also impressed that Shane continues to hone his skill set and improve in every facet of the game year by year.”
The Rattlers enter the 2020 season as the defending CEBL Champions. They will open the season away from home on May 8 when they take on the Fraser Valley Bandits. The Rattlers home opener will take place on May 14 against the Bandits, when they will celebrate the 2019 season by unveiling the first-ever CEBL Championship banner.
