The Saskatchewan Health Authority announced Tuesday afternoon during a conference call that they’re working alongside SaskTel and eHealth to upgrade the infrastructure that supports the 811 healthline.
Lately, the 811 healthline has been flooded with calls in regards to the coronavirus.
Executive Director of Infrastructure Management with the Saskatchewan Health Authority, Derek Miller says the new phone infrastructure will increase the call line to over 500 with the ability to increase that number.
Miller adds the upgrade will decrease the changes of dropped calls and it will allow for a call back feature were residents can select to have a receive a call back if they don’t want to wait on the line.
On Saturday, the SHA announced that they more than doubled the staff who are working to support the 811 line.
The SHA has also seen a number of retired health care workers and medical students looking to help out in anyway they can. Dr. Susan Shaw says they’re looking for the best ways to bring them onto their team.
