The Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations executive is demanding the Prime Minister immediately increase First Nations Investments. FSIN Chief Bobby Cameron says that some of the First Nations have already had difficulty acquiring enough of the basic personal protective equipment needed to prevent infection. He says the $305 million earmarked for First Nations, Metis and Inuit is not enough to match the actual resources required to deal with the spread of COVID-19.
The FSIN wants in on provincial pandemic planning and conference calls. Chief Cameron says, “The only way we are going to stop the spread of COVID-19 and decrease the number of cases provincially is if we all work together and unify in pandemic planning.” He says the provincial COVID-19 Emergency Response Team needs to be inclusive of First Nations people and be open to work with the FSIN’s COVID-19 Emergency Response Team.
