SEIU-West says the provincial government continues to display a lack of comprehension about the challenges faced by front line health care workers in the provision of health services. The union says more emphasis is needed on prevention and testing. It says they need community support and the respect of SHA and Ministry of Health decision-makers. President Barbara Cape says their members are revealing stark inconsistencies in how they are to manage their own personal health, including whether or not to self-isolate and occupational health and safety concerns related to personal protective equipment like gloves and masks. The union says its workers are on the front line of the pandemic and are at a higher risk than most for exposure to the virus.
