Twenty-six finalists for seven awards!
Unfortunately, due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, there will not be a glitzy awards night to honour the best of Huskie Athletics from the 2019-20 season. But, the Major 7 Awards will be announced throughout the day on April 1 on social media.
Also, in lieu of the in-person Huskie Salute gala, Huskie Athletics will also honour Canada West major award winners, U Sports All-Canadians and Major Award winners plus fifth year athletes and hand out the Trainer of the Year award.

2020 Huskie Athletics Major 7 Awards nominees announced

SASKATOON – Huskie Athletics is proud to announce the nominees for the Major 7 Awards after yet another fantastic season in 2019-20. In response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Huskie Athletics has made the decision to cancel the in-person Salute gala and will instead be announcing winners live on social media throughout the day on Wednesday, April 1. The Major 7 Awards are handed to those athletes who have had outstanding seasons for the green and white, as well as made big contributions on the field, in the classroom and in the community during their time with the Huskies. Huskie Athletics will also honour Canada West Major Award Winners, U SPORTS All-Canadians and Major Award Winners and fifth-year athletes, as well as hand out the Trainer of the Year award. And the nominees are… Howard Nixon Trophy – Male Rookie of the Year Two-time Canada West Second Team All-Star and U SPORTS Silver medallist … Michael Akintunde, Track & Field Leading the team with 43 tackles and Canada West Rookie of the Year … Ramsey Derbas, Football Canada West Rookie of the Year after a team-high 28 points and member of the U SPORTS All-Rookie Team … Jared Dmytriw, Hockey Canada West and U SPORTS Rookie of the Year as well as conference and national gold medallist … Carson Lee, Wrestling Patricia Lawson Trophy – Female Rookie of the Year Starting all 28 games and leading the team to a third place finish … Kate Ball, Hockey Canada West First Team All-Star and U SPORTS Second Team All-Canadian … Kaitlyn Harrison, Cross Country Member of the Canada West All-Rookie Team and ranking fourth on the team in minutes played … Halle Krynowsky, Soccer E.
