Saskatchewan’s family physicians are urging people to stay home and save lives. Carla Holinaty is chair of the family practice section of the Saskatchewan Medical Association. She says, “Abiding by the public health guidelines on physical distancing will do more than anything else to assist family physicians as they deal with the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as their regular patients.” The Saskatoon physician says family doctor are part of the front-line of care during the pandemic and are often the first point of contact for people who think they might have contracted the virus. She implores people to stay home if possible, limit contact with others, and practice physical distancing. She says patients should call their doctor’s office first for guidance such as whether they should come into the office, complete the self-assessment tool on the government’s provincial website, call the 8-1-1 HealthLine, or get tested for COVID-19. And if you are showing COVID symptoms, you MUST call your doctor ahead of time so they can arrange the proper safety precautions for when you arrive.
