Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced details of the Canada Emergency Wage subsidy for businesses whose revenue has decreased by 30% because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
He also says the number of employees a company employs will not determine whether or not it is eligible for support. It will apply to non-profit organizations and charities as well as companies both big and small.
For workers laid off because of the virus, the prime minister says the government will cover up to 75% of wages.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was also asked, with the price of oil plummeting, if there was any specific help for the energy sector.
Trudeau says the emergency wage subsidy that has been announced will help companies large and small across all sectors of the economy which will go a long way towards reassuring workers they can get through the coming weeks.
