This morning (Tue) Saskatchewan’s opposition leader helped a Prince Albert resident discuss the situation with her 88 year old father in a senior’s home.
Wendy Fyrk says he is facing decreased access to home care in the next week or so. The facility told Fyrk she and her family will have to take on those home care responsibilities like coming in and making sure her dad takes his medications, or she will have to bring him home while they pull health services.
She also says the home suggested the client administer their own medication and points out they wouldn’t be using a senior’s home if her father could do that for himself.
She said it’s important to make sure they are following physical distancing during the outbreak, but she may be forced to hire a private nurse or find an alternate solution for her father.
Meili is suggesting a list of increased protections and enhanced supports for Saskatchewan’s seniors. He wants resources for seniors, like tablets, so they can stay in touch with family and friends. Meili would also like to see clear rules around physical distancing in seniors’ facilities to protect residents and staff, and additional resources to allow facilities to hire staff that can implement physical distancing and provide support.
