Prime Minister Justin Trudeau remained non-committal in his answers despite repeated and direct questions Monday morning from journalists about the possibility a shipment of personal protective equipment had been delayed on the weekend at the U.S. border.
City TV did an interview with Ontario Premier Doug Ford who identified one shipment on the weekend with 3 million masks being delayed. Ford said that within a week, without some shipments, PPE for their health care workers would run out.
The Prime Minister would not acknowledge that a specific shipment had been stopped and would not confirm anything specific to the United States. He did say discussions were on-going with the U.S. and stressed several times that they expect shipments to arrive.
The Prime Minister would only say that he recognized shipments from countries around the world have been delayed and shipments are coming in with less than what was wanted.
Another deficit identified was the amount of testing being conducted in Canada. Germany has attributed flattening the curve to testing.
Justin Trudeau acknowledges large scale testing is a key component to flattening the curve so they can monitor COVID-19 throughout the populations. The Prime Minister says they know there is a need and they are working on securing new tests kits and a larger number of test kits.
