NDP Leader Ryan Meili called on the provincial government to make sure all hands are on deck, to fight COVID-19.
After the Saskatchewan Health Authority released projected numbers on Wednesday, predicting thousands of deaths in the province, Meili says the numbers are hard to take.
Meili added that the projections from the SHA are models, saying that is what could happen, but it isn’t what has to happen. He once again called on the provincial government to establish a special committee, of government, opposition and including leaders from across the province. He says that is how we can turn the projections into what could have been, rather than what has to.
“Today’s numbers are not unavoidable; they’re a call to action. We must do everything we can to flatten the curve and look after the many people who are struggling right now. As Senior Medical Health Officer Dr. Julie Kryzanowski said today, we are all playing for the same team and we win or lose together.”
The Leader of the Opposition says that is why he is asking the Premier to immediately engage leaders from all corners of the province, all sectors of our economy, those representing students and workers and small businesses, mayors of towns and cities, First Nations and Mtis leaders on a task force to ensure that the people of Saskatchewan get through this stronger than ever.
