The Prime Minister says stronger quarantine measures will start Tuesday night for people who have lived outside Canada for years, and want to return.
At his COVID-19 briefing, Justin Trudeau says, under the quarantine act, officials now have the authority to ask a person’s plan for self-isolation. He says, if it is inadequate, they will be required to quarantine in a hotel.
The Prime Minister was asked about his own social distancing practices after traveling from Ottawa to Harrington Lake to visit his wife and children over Easter despite social distancing protocols. He says, after three weeks of his family living at Harrington, and him working in Ottawa, he went to visit them while following all of the instructions from public health authorities.
Trudeau was asked when people can go back to work, businesses can reopen, and kids can get back to school?
Trudeau says there is no firm timeline for the economy to restart once the coronavirus pandemic eases. He says the reality is, it will be weeks away yet. He says getting the economy going again will have to be done in stages and they will have to remain vigilant until a COVID-19 vaccine is found.
Trudeau was also asked when the oil sector bail-out was coming, and says the government is looking at specific sector related relief
