Arson was the cause of a $200 thousand fire Tuesday afternoon at 216 Avenue F South. Around three o’clock, crews were called to the abandoned house and found flames visible at the back of the structure. Saskatoon Police set up traffic restrictions while fire crews battled the flames. They were on the scene until early into the evening putting out hot spots. It was all over shortly after six o’clock. The fire began on the main level and quickly extended up into the attic. The house was a total loss. The matter remains under investigation by both the Fire Department and Saskatoon Police.
The Saskatoon Fire Department was called to a report of a suspected electrical fire at a business at 810 60th Street East. The source was 50 feet above ground, inside a warehouse. Fire Fighters used a mechanical lift to reach the area which turned out to be a refrigeration unit that they found to be warm to the touch. Smoke was visible but there was no fire. Melting heat tape was believed to be the cause.
