Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says more help is coming for Canadians hit economically by the COVID-19 pandemic.
In his daily briefing in Ottawa, Trudeau says the measures include topping up the pay of essential workers. He says they will also be expanding the Canada Emergency Response Benefit to reach people who are earning some income, as well as for seasonal workers who are facing no jobs, and for those who have run out of Employment Insurance recently.
Trudeau will also be speaking with the premiers on Thursday to discuss how to improve conditions in long term care facilities, and boost wages to workers in them.
The Prime Minister has been asked where Canada stands when it comes to supporting the World Health Organization.
Trudeau was questioned about how the W-H-O has handled the pandemic, particularly on allegations China withheld vital information on the virus. The PM says we have to rely on science, the recommendations of experts, the data, and the knowledge that we’ve gathered from past pandemics and health issues to apply to these situations.
Trudeau says that’s why they will always continue to work with experts worldwide, including the W-H-O.
