Saskatchewan is maintaining its AAA credit rating from Moody’s Investors Service. That means our obligations are judged to be of the highest quality, subject to the lowest level of credit risk. Moody’s says the credit profile reflects very strong debt affordability despite a forecast rise in debt and solid reserve levels from cash and investment, relative to the majority of other provinces. The credit profile also reflects benefits from recent improvements in the province’s fiscal position. One of the challenges Moody’s sees is a rising debt burden to support capital infrastructure and large pension liabilities.
Finance Minister Donna Harpauer says, when combined with the Double A rating from S&P Global Ratings and DBRS Morningstar, Saskatchewan has the second highest credit rating in Canada.
