The sentencing of the La Loche shooter stands. The Supreme Court of Canada has decided not to hear the sentencing appeal. In 2016, four people died and seven were wounded when a 17 year old boy killed two brothers in their home and then a teacher and a teacher’s aide at the high school.
The accused pleaded guilty to First Degree Murder, Second Degree Murder, and Attempted Murder. He was hoping for a youth sentence. But the judge sentenced him as an adult to life in prison with no chance of parole for 10 years.
That was appealed and, last fall, Saskatchewan’s highest court dismissed the appeal. That’s when the leave to appeal went to the Supreme Court.
