NDP Leader Ryan Meili is calling on the provincial government to start investing in the people of Saskatchewan, instead of using spending projections put together before the COVID-19 pandemic.
Meili says the government has failed to provide meaningful support for the most vulnerable, including, refusing to provide support to food banks across the province. Meili explains previous projections are outdated and no longer reflect our reality, excluding tax deferrals the government has committed a total of 73 million dollars, or 61 dollars per person to residents. Numbers, he says, that are significantly lagging behind what other provinces are offering.
The NDP leader says failing to act now will mean more people will lose their jobs, homes and businesses. He suggests for the long term economic well-being of Saskatchewan, the time to invest in people is now.
