The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Saskatchewan, are concerned that front-line workers will fall through the cracks of the Re-Open Saskatchewan Plan.
CUPE raised concerns this week that the plan does not provide enough clarity for those on the front line of the pandemic. President of the CUPE, Judy Henley, says there is no solution for parents who require childcare to return to work and no solution for workers who have exhausted sick leave benefits. She also suggests that shortages of Personal Protective Equipment will be a major hurdle in ensuring the province can re-open safely.
In addition, CUPE Saskatchewan, is concerned about the enforcement of occupation health and safety measures. Henley asks who will be responsible for monitoring new exposure opportunities and physical distancing in newly opened businesses. Adding there are simply not enough resources for WorkSafe Saskatchewan to properly investigate and enforce pandemic guidelines.
