More progress has been made on Canada’s first geothermal power plant in southern Saskatchewan.
President and CEO of DEEP Earth Energy, Kirsten Marcia, says the company has completed drilling on 4 additional wells, which began at the end of October and wrapped up recently just before the COVID-19 pandemic hit.
The wells are in the southeast portion of the province, near Torquay and are the deepest wells ever drilled in Saskatchewan.
Marcia says the they can now plan for the testing of the new wells and how to use them, which will start in June. Testing will allow DEEP Earth Energy to understand the relative contributions from each of the zones, leading to plans and designs for next summers drilling programs.
Marcia says they will likely drill three additional wells, which will give DEEP the final information they need to complete the engineering work for construction of the facility.
