This is the month when the YWCA Women of Distinction Awards committee would be busy putting the final touches on the event which was to be held on the 21st, but because of COVID-19 it has been postponed until the fall. Committee co-chair, Raegan Pollard, says the event is now scheduled for October 15th in the hopes the gala can happen in person so the honourees can have their special night. The safety of the community and the YWCA community as a whole are of utmost importance so the committee will continue to monitor the government’s regulations.
The nominees have been announced, but this year’s honourees have yet to be selected. The list is on the YWCA Women of Distinction Awards Facebook page. Ticket sales are on hold until closer to the date for this event, which is the YWCA’s largest fundraiser of the year. Pollard says, like everyone else, they wonder what will happen next year, adding it may be that large events in general may evolve into something different, but it’s just something they will have to play by ear and adapt where they can.
