Opposition leader Ryan Meili has sent a letter to Premier Scott Moe directly asking for a meeting between the two politicians so they can negotiate the resumption of the legislature and the introduction of a full budget.
Meili is making the request after he shared that his past offers to bring back the legislature in a way that respects physical distancing protocols were rejected by the premier.
Meili mentioned that other provinces like Manitoba, Ontario and Quebec have found ways to resume legislative functions while respecting public orders.
Meili also notes that when they agreed to dissolve the legislature back in March, he said the government agreed not go to an election without introducing a budget and giving the appropriate time to debate that budget.
Meili says it’s the due diligence that our democracy demands in Saskatchewan and that steps need to be taken to retrieve it.
