The Saskatchewan Country Music Association is celebrating the best in country, roots and gospel tomorrow night (Sat), because the show must go on, just in a different way.
The SCMA Awards Weekend were to be held in April, but were postponed because of COVID-19.
President of the SCMA Board, Wes LaBrash, says they had to decide between cancelling all of the weekend events, delaying everything until late fall, or going virtual.
The Board didn’t want the winners to not have some sort of celebration so it was decided to continue.
However, delaying to a live event in the fall seemed uncertain and possibly costly with changes of booked venues.
That’s why it was decided the Awards Show would become a virtual one.
LaBrash says it means all the other performances through the weekend and workshops won’t be happening, but at least the Awards Show honouring the winners will continue.
The show has been taped with the winners sworn to secrecy, and it will air on Access7 Cable TV at 8 tomorrow night and at the same time online.
Next year’s SCMA Awards Weekend is in Estevan.
