Two people, of the eight charged in the Tiki Laverdiere homicide, were sentenced Friday.
Brent Firel Checkosis, a 19 year old from the Poundmaker First Nation, has been sentenced to 7 years. He pleaded guilty to accessory after the fact to the murder of Tiki Laverdiere . Taking into account his time spent in remand, Checkosis has 5 years, 6 and a half months left to serve in a federal penitentiary.
In a separate decision, 55 year old Mavis Quinn Takakenew of North Battleford has been sentenced to 18 months in prison after also pleading guilty to accessory after the fact in the murder of Tiki Laverdiere. When her remand time is taken into account, Mavis Takakenew will serve 4 months and 8 days in jail.
Tiki Laverdiere was 25 years old when she was reported missing last May. Her remains were found July 11th, 2019.
