Meewasin Valley Authority, is reminding of some safety precautions to take into account, for the May long weekend.
Meewasin says water outflows from the South Saskatchewan River are extremely high, resulting in a very strong current. They advise being cautious near the river and to not leave children or pets unattended.
Fire bans are currently in effect for all sandbars in the Meewasin valley due to dry weather conditions. Rural beach sites including Fred Heal Canoe Launch, Paradise Beach (water and access trails only), Poplar Bluffs and Cranberry Flats (washroom will remain closed) are open from 8am to 8pm. However, Meewasin says the gates will close right at 8 pm with no opportunity to access or leave the site otherwise.
Meewasin also advises that COVID-19 precautions are in effect with trailhead signage up, and guidelines available on their website.
