The Saskatoon Police Service gave a tip of the hat to the city’s Park Ambassadors. They are re-deployed staff from the city’s leisure centres, including some lifeguards, and those sixteen started their new duties just prior to the long weekend in Saskatoon’s 200 parks.
Saskatoon Police say the program is a benefit to the police service pointing out that to date they have received 425 calls about people not obeying Public Health Orders. Saskatoon Police Service says it hasn’t written any tickets because most people understand and are compliant. They also note that these Park Ambassadors alleviate calls about violations of the public health orders around limiting gatherings to no more than 10 people as well as in regards to physical distancing guidelines.
The City of Saskatoon says the Park Ambassadors have been divided into 8 different sections of the city and will be in parks 7 days a week and they are educating and reminding Saskatoon residents while also making sure the correct signage is in place in outdoor gathering spaces.
