This week, Saskatchewan Health Minister Jim Reiter mentioned that the health authority’s CEO Tour report works as an accountability mechanism.
However the Saskatchewan NDP is asking the government to release the latest report. The last tour report that is online is from 2018.
Health Critic Vicki Mowat says a robust and honest account of the state of affairs in long-term care in Saskatchewan must be provided in order to protect vulnerable residents.
The NDP is also pushing for minimum care standards in the province, after reports from seniors’ care homes in Ontario and Quebec showing deplorable conditions.
Seniors Critic Danielle Chartier says she’s thankful the COVID-19 pandemic hasn’t hit long-term care homes in Saskatchewan, but that doesn’t mean the conditions present in Ontario and Quebec don’t exist in this province.
She says, in 2011, the government cut minimum care standards that were in place at that time.
Chartier said the Sask Party government defeated an NDP private member’s bill in recent years calling for minimum care standards to be reinforced.
