This morning there have been power outages, trees down, and probably a few patio umbrellas have made their way into nearby yards. There were wind warnings for parts of Saskatchewan Sunday and Brad Vrolijk Lead Forecaster with Environment Canada says a wind warning came into effect for the Battlefords, Saskatoon, Martensville, Nipawin and Prince Albert areas on Monday morning.
The strongest wind recorded yesterday was actually in Regina with a gust to 89 kilometres an hour. Vrolijk says overnight is when the wind really picked up. He said it was westerly winds coming up from southern Alberta blowing into central Saskatchewan. Kindersley saw a gust to 93 kilometres an hour and Saskatoon recorded a gust of 100 km/h at 5 a.m. Monday morning.
Vrolijk says the wind that has been hammering away at parts of Saskatchewan throughout Sunday and overnight is losing its steam as the weather system makes its way east across the province. With the wind moving east so do the wind warnings but Kindersley, Saskatoon, North Battleford, Lloydminster, Spiritwood, Prince Albert, Nipawin, Melfort and Tisdale have all seen wind warnings Monday morning.
Brad Vrolijk says by late morning the wind should diminish to 50 km/h gusting to 70 km/h and by tonight Saskatchewan residents can expect winds out of the west at 20 km/h.
