Planning is underway for what the next school year will look like, but for now supplemental online learning continues.
Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools is encouraging students to continue online through social media posts and communication with families.
The Catholic School Board heard in a report that Facilities Services is trying to plan for what schools may need for the fall.
Contactless thermometers, directional arrows for the floors, plexiglass screens for schools offices and visual aids to support physical distancing are a few examples.
Documents to support physical distancing, proper hygiene and regular cleaning and sanitizing are being developed.
A report from the Response Planning Team says all the sectors of the division are working through scenarios for school beginning again face-to-face in the fall and identifying any issues.
It’s a bit more challenging for new families and in particular families with children of pre kindergarten or kindergarten age who may be new.
The school board heard that typically there would be many opportunities for families to tour the school and meet the staff beforehand.
Right now everything is online, but it is hoped that as restrictions are lifted, the schools can welcome new families for a tour and to meet some of the staff.
Maintenance work continues, even through a pandemic.
Seven tender responses were received for each of 4 schools in the Greater Saskatoon Catholic School Division for roof replacement, with the project going to the lowest bidder in each case.
A report to the School Division says Haid Roofing was awarded the roofing projects at Ecole St. Gerard, St. Mark School and St. Phillip School.
Flynn Canada was awarded the contract at St. Michael School.
The project sizes range from just over $77-thousand for the St. Michael School project to over $463-thousand for St. Mark School.
Also, with the schools closed because of the pandemic and classes continuing online, Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools saw the opportunity for enhanced cleaning, which has begun.
It includes cleaning gym rafters, landscaping, and a complete cleanout of the mechanical systems.
The individual schools have been asked to clear out any student items and possessions that may have been left behind and reach out to families for pick up, following the COVID-19 safety protocols.
