Justin Trudeau says his government continues to procure personal protective equipment for frontline health care workers, with the possibility of a 2nd wave of coronavirus infections on the horizon.
Speaking at his COVID-19 update, the Prime Minister says a big part of the effort is home-grown. He says we are building the capacity to make these supplies at home, supporting good jobs for Canadians. He also says we have four Canadian companies working on what may be breakthrough solutions for COVID-19 rapid testing. He says they’ve received 100 million surgical masks and 40 million gloves from international suppliers.
The topic of a resumption of the NHL also came up during the Prime Minister’s briefing. He says discussions are ongoing between the league, governments, and health officials. But he says they also need to make sure they are keeping Canadians safe.
The Prime Minister was stymied by one question at his coronavirus update in Ottawa.
Trudeau was asked his thoughts about the actions of the U.S President in the aftermath of the death of a black man, George Floyd, and the hands of a white police officer in Minneapolis.
Trudeau took a very long pause before answering. He said, “We all watch in horror and consternation, what’s going on in the United States.” He says, “It is a time to pull people together. Bit it is a time to listen, it is a time to learn when injustices continue despite progress over years and decades.”
Peaceful protesters were tear-gassed and shot with rubber bullets to clear a path for the presidential photo-op outside a church in Washington D.C.
