This is probably the best day Saskatchewan has had in its efforts to flatten the curve of COVID-19. There are no new cases of novel coronavirus to report and the provincial total remains at 646. Fourteen more people have recovered. Two people are in hospital and both are in intensive care in Saskatoon.
Eleven people have died from COVID-19 in Saskatchewan. With 33 of the 646 cases reported to date, active in the province, that means just over 5% of COVID-19 cases are active in Saskatchewan.
As of Monday, Northwest Saskatchewan travel restrictions will lift meaning travel in and out of the region and between communities. Phase 1 and 2 of the Re-Open Saskatchewan plan will commence in La Loche on June 8th. For the entire northwest, as of June 8th, outdoor gathering may increase to 20 people but indoor must remain restricted to 10 people. Social distancing is in effect no matter where you are.
Phase 3 of the Re-Open Saskatchewan plan is delayed across the Northwest. Health officials are also closely monitoring case numbers as well as other variable which could delay lifting of restrictions.
Of the 646 cases in the province:
- 142 cases are travellers;
- 384 are community contacts (including mass gatherings);
- 77 have no known exposures; and
- 43 are under investigation by local public health.
Overall in Saskatchewan:
- 51 cases are health care workers; however, the source of the infections may not be related to health care in all instances.
- 256 of the cases are from the Far North, 169 are from the Saskatoon area, 112 from the North, 80 from the Regina area, 17 from the South and 12 from the Central region.
- 95 cases involve people 19 years of age and under, while the remainder are adults.
- 230 cases are in the 20-39 age range; 197 are in the 40-59 age range; 106 are in the 60-79 age range; and 18 are in the 80-plus range.
- 52 per cent of the cases are females and 48 per cent are males.
To date, 48,593 COVID-19 tests have been performed in the province. As of June 1, 2020, when other provincial and national numbers were last available from the Public Health Agency of Canada, Saskatchewan’s per capita rate was 37,172 people tested per million population. The national rate was 44,996 people tested per million population.
