Their Annual General Meeting isn’t scheduled until later this month, but word from Saskatchewan Roughriders’ shareholders is that the C-F-L team will announce a loss of $210,064 on their 2019-20 operations.
The community-owned franchise sent out a package to shareholders in advance of the A-G-M. In it, the Riders attribute the financial shortfall in their latest fiscal year to two main things…expenses for hosting the 2020 Grey Cup Game and putting in their share to help keep the Montreal Alouettes afloat. The Green and White invested a half-million dollars towards the 2020 Grey Cup Game, which will now be held in 2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As for the Als, the other eight C-F-L teams, including the Roughriders, pitched in $600,000 each after the league took over the running of the Montreal franchise while trying to find a buyer.
