Habitat for Humanity in Saskatoon’s RESTORE is headed online after help from a charitable foundation.
The Vern and Clara Welker Fund, began annual disbursements between 5 local charities back in 2011, after an initial $2.9 million donation to the Saskatoon Community Foundation. One of this year’s contributions will be used to create ReStoreSaskatoon.ca.
The Restore sells donated items from the community, in order to raise funds for Habitat for Humanity help build affordable housing.
Habitat for Humanity Saskatoon CEO, Brenda Wallace says the RESTORE is a significant financial support and due to the pandemic had to be shut down. She says the donation, allowed their team to work during the shutdown to launch the aspiration goal of turning RESTORE online, with the website having gone live Thursday.
Wallace added with contributions over the past 10 years from the Welker Family Fund, Habitat Saskatoon has benefited by over $200 thousand. She hopes with the combination of the online store and renovated Restore, it will allow them to come back stronger, as need for affordable housing continues to grow during the pandemic.
