Severe weather is expected Saturday evening, in the southern portions of the province, and into the night, as strong winds develop over an area where temperatures and humidity levels are expected to surge.
According to AccuWeather an outbreak of severe thunderstorms could strike Southern Saskatchewan and southeastern Alberta. The storms are expected to bring a variety of weather including widespread heavy, gusty thunderstorms, large hail, damaging straight-line wind gusts, flash flooding and even the possibility of tornadoes says Canada Weather Expert Brett Anderson. Anderson adds most of the severe weather will be closer to the US border.
In Saskatoon and area rain showers are expected Saturday night and into Sunday morning with about 10 to 15 mm expected on both days. Winds will likely be gusting up to 70 km/h throughout the weekend.
A special weather statement was also issued Saturday by Environment Canada:
Special weather statement in effect for:
- City of Saskatoon
A low pressure system in Montana will bring some rain, gusty winds, and thunderstorm activity to southern Saskatchewan today.
This first batch of mixed summer weather will ease through the day for most areas. However, the low pressure system will track into the province tonight bringing more widespread thunderstorms. This weather system will bring strong wind gusts at times tonight and into Sunday particularly with the thunderstorms. As well, there is a potential for high rainfall amounts in the southwestern portions of Saskatchewan. Some areas towards the Alberta have received significant rainfall already over the last couple of days.
