Saskatoon’s Community Support Program will now be able to respond to situations in the city faster, after adding a bike patrol to their operations.
The CSP is a year round patrol team that currently has 6 officers, Supervisor Rob Garrison says they generally handle non-criminal calls so police might not have to. This can include support for intoxicated people, people struggling with mental issues and even offering directions and advice to visitors in Saskatoon.
Garrison says being a foot patrol based team, in order to be effective officers need to plan ahead for where they think activity may happen. With the additional of the bike patrol it is so much quicker, and easier. He says they already have a very good response time for a foot patrol team but now if they can get to incidents even quicker it can possibly save on emergency services.
The Saskatoon Police Service invited the CSP to attend a 36 hour Law Enforcement Bike Association certified training. Three members of the CSP attended and were successfully certified buy Saskatoon Police trainers.
You can report an incident at 306-382-6935 but call 911 for any criminal related matters.
