Two projects, led by the Johnson Shoyama Graduate School of Public Policy based at the University of Saskatchewan and the University of Regina have received $400 thousand in funding from Mitacs, a national non-profit innovation organization. The Regina project involves development of an app-based program that will ultimately provide Indigenous community leaders with data to help then in self-governing and decision-making during public health crises like COVID-19. In Saskatoon, a research team is exploring the relevance and viability of technological innovations to the unique circumstances and opportunities of the North. The research will focus on a broad range of products and services including 3D printer construction, remote mining technologies, and remote surgery.
