Pittsburgh Pirate fans were furiously Googling Muenster, Saskatchewan yesterday as their team drafted 5-foot-10, right hander Logan Hofman with their first round pick in the MLB draft (No. 138 over-all). Hofman is a great story in that he was drafted last year in the 35th round by the St. Louis Cardinals but rather than sign with the Cards he focused on improving his game and his draft position the year. After a stellar season last summer in the Cape Code League he went to Northwestern State this spring and was on a 4-0 tear with no earned runs and 38 strikeouts.
Hofman expanded his game, “at Northwestern we took workouts to a new level and I started watching more video, paying more attention to sequencing and different things that didn’t include physical things.” Hofman says he “really focused on getting guys out in different ways.” It obviously worked.
Even thought it was a big day for Hofman he says he wants to thank all the people from family to coaches and volunteers who helped him through his career. “They pushed me, kept my confidence up and helped me become the player I am today.”
