As of early this week, there were over 3-thousand participants nationwide and a million dollars raised for the Canadian Cancer Society’s virtual fundraiser Relay at Home, which is Saturday night.
Because of the pandemic, it’s taking the place of the annual Relay for Life.
Annual Giving Coordinator for the prairie region, Aurora Marinari, says Saskatchewan is doing well for participation numbers, although they aren’t raising the same amount of funds as they have in the past.
In Saskatoon, there are about 51 participants, which is about a quarter of last year’s turnout.
The event from 5 to 7 Saturday night includes the activities you would normally see at Relay for Life, like the survivor and luminary ceremonies and musical guests.
You can still sign up and raise some funds.
Then Saturday morning, a link will be sent to your email address to join in the virtual Relay at Home.
Marinari says the funds usually go mostly to research, but this year, because cancer doesn’t take a break just because of a pandemic, funding will go to support cancer patients.
